Magnolia & Tujunga

There have been sparks of gold in our lives, moments of clarity in times of deep separation and darkness. These sparks can alter the course of our entire lives. “It is in the giving that you receive” you always say. For nearly a year now I have studied the section of your home that is visible from the screen, wondering how I can make something that will fit in with you, that is you. I prayed for inspiration and inspiration arrived. 

When you spoke at CRI Help there are two very specific things that stuck out to me - 1 how you had been on Magnolia & Tujunga and made the decision to not live that way anymore and 2 the feeling of the hot water of the shower as you were detoxing. On occasion, I can feel other people's experiences in full with all of my senses as they speak. I could feel that, and as I sat there I imagined you with flecks of gold all around you as your thinking began to reformulate throughout those years. From fear to love. This canvas is a storm of duality fighting for the truth. The darkest dark, but the most magnificent portrait of clarity and hope at the same time. 

My favorite painting in life is titled Boom Shiva by Android Jones. That’s a long story but one day I walked up and there was that painting. I sat with it meditating from sun up to sundown. It was the first painting that taught me to look into the dark to find the light until you become the light objectively studying the dark and not the other way around. As you say, God will never take away our free will, and at any given moment we can choose which version of study we want to partake.

And so. I hope you see the magic and radiance of your path and all that you teach within this canvas. All of my pieces are shapeshifters. You will see things there one day that are gone the next for years to come. But, as a whole, the work is a personification of you - your spirit without a physical form as separation and fear create a storm, returning to love.
