A troubadour was a composer and performer of Old Occitan lyric poetry during the High Middle Ages (1100–1350). The word troubadour is masculine, just like the bold colors, movements and shapes of this painting. Specifically, this canvas evokes the fluidity and beauty of extravagant drama. There are multiple figures and faces within her, and they all appear to be dancing - alive - radiant. 

I always wanted to be a dancer. Working in restaurants I knew quite a few extremely talented actors. My favorite, Jen, played Polly Peachem in the 3 Penny Opera at Steppenwolf in Chicago. She taught me all about theater, mostly because of how I would make fun of her and call her an actress. She invited me to the most amazing opening and closing nights of all of her shows. My favorite show of all time is Because They Have No Words. I remember it being so profound. In Las Vegas, I had some wonderful showgirl friends who would invite us to their shows and a friend that did all of the lightings at Legends. 

This painting is like all of that excitement, talent, rehearsal, love, lights and performance all contrasting and moving within this work. It is the radiant glow of a performance on stage. I am a better person for every single one I have seen.
