Some people love Disneyland, I love The Madonna Inn. I am an artist living in San Diego and a few times a year I come to SLO and The Madonna Inn. I always try to get a room with a bathtub so I can take a giant bubble bath and eat a whole pink champaign cake. I wear a sequined pink evening gown to dinner because why the f not. I like to joke that when I die, I am going to haunt this place with pink light prisms around my neck. There is something about the old eclectic magic of this place that deeply inspires me.
I wanted to gift one of my paintings to the hotel as this place has inspired hundreds of pieces of my art over the years. This specific canvas is titled “Pink Cloud” and embodies the whirring, shiny, unusual and heavily textured path my experiences here have created. I bought one of the heavy glass goblets with The Madonna Inn pattern on it on my first visit, in light pink. When it broke off of the stem the Cheri graciously sent me another one, this time in teal. You guys so didn’t have to do that but I want ya to know it was much appreciated and I drink coconut la croix out of that cup every day like I’m a damn queen. Thank you so much Cheri for making me feel important. It is an honor to give my art to you all.
I worked in hospitality for 20 years. Through that career, I saw the very worst and very best of people. Thank you all for making the Madonna Inn such a special place. Especially the people that make the cakes and do the dishes until 1am and run the floors at the restaurants & manage the team so I can come here and have such an awesome experience each time.
